Malone Historic District
The Franklin County Historical and Museum Society is working with local businessman John Mills to submit an application to NYS to designate an Historic District in the Village of Malone. Mills began the effort to identify a cohesive historic district in 1992, at the suggestion of officials with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The effort to document all contributing properties within the proposed district, and prepare a historical monograph was renewed in 2004, with a plan to submit the completed application to NY State at the end of 2005. If the application is approved, the Malone Historic District will be added to the NYS and National Registers of Historic Places, making qualifying property owners eligible for certain tax incentives. The creation of a Historic District in the Village of Malone will help identify our historic resources and make them more visible to both residents and visitors alike.
