The Board of Regents of the State of New York incorporated this Association (Franklin County Historical and Museum Society) to:

Its object shall be to promote and encourage original historical research, to disseminate greater knowledge of the early history of the County of Franklin in the State of New York by means of lecture, and the publication and distribution of literature on historical subjects, to gather books, manuscripts, pictures and relics relating to the early history of said County of Franklin, and to establish a museum at Malone, New York for their preservation, to suitably mark places of historic interest, and to acquire by purchase or otherwise, the title to, or custody and control of, historic spots and places.
